Drone threats can close roads, empty clinics and force aid teams to turn back, delaying food, clean water, medicine and protection services.

The organization pointed to Sudan and Ukraine as examples of the humanitarian consequences. In East Darfur, a reported drone attack on Al-Daein Teaching Hospital killed at least 64 people, including 13 children and health workers, and severely injured 90 others. The hospital was left non-functional.

In Ukraine, families have described children sheltering in basements while drones operate above their communities. World Vision said some children have been separated from their parents for months while seeking safety abroad.

More than 1,000 humanitarian workers killed

More than 1,000 humanitarian workers were killed during the past three years, including 350 in 2025, according to figures cited by World Vision. The organization described the 2025 total as the second highest ever recorded.

The statement also cited at least 8,566 attacks on education during 2024 and 2025, more than 40 per cent above the level recorded in 2022–2023. Nearly 1,900 attacks on health facilities, personnel and services had been verified by the World Health Organization in 2026.

Protection and accountability demands

World Vision called on governments and parties to conflict to protect humanitarian workers, civilians and civilian infrastructure under international humanitarian law. It also urged safe, sustained and unimpeded access to communities affected by conflict.

The organization asked for independent investigations and accountability for attacks on aid personnel and civilian infrastructure. It further called for the humanitarian effects of drones and other emerging military technologies to be addressed.

World Humanitarian Day is observed on 19 August. The 2026 #ActForHumanity campaign focuses on stronger protection for humanitarian workers, accountability for attacks and safe access for people affected by crises.

Aid worker attacks and drone warfare are restricting humanitarian access, leaving children without food, medicine and protection.

[127
784,38,35,661,426
post-1901","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-children-in-conflict","tag-civilian-protection","tag-international-humanitarian-law","tag-sudan","tag-ukraine
["GET
