WFP Türkiye assistance reached 27,637 people in June as the agency advanced a new strategy for refugees and emergency preparedness.
WFP Türkiye assistance reached 27,637 people through cash and food support in June 2026, according to a World Food Programme country brief published on 3 August. Women accounted for 51% of those assisted, while WFP transferred USD 0.3 million in cash during the month.
Türkiye Country Strategic Plan 2026–2028
WFP’s Executive Board approved Türkiye’s new Country Strategic Plan for 2026–2028 in late June. The plan will guide the organization’s work with refugees, emergency preparedness and response, institutional capacity strengthening, and service provision.
The agency said the strategy will also combine the complementary strengths of WFP and Türkiye to support global emergency response efforts.
Support for returning Syrian refugees
WFP also revised snack kits distributed to returning Syrian refugees at border crossings after receiving beneficiary feedback. The updated kits contain bread rolls, olives, jam, cheese, cereal bars, halwa and water.
Procurement difficulties faced by WFP’s cooperating partner, the Turkish Red Crescent, suspended snack-kit distribution from mid-March until early June. Distribution then resumed, while ready-to-eat meals continued without interruption.
Funding needs through December
The country brief states that WFP requires USD 4.1 million for its Türkiye operations between July and December 2026. The figure sets out the agency’s six-month resource requirement as it continues food and cash assistance alongside longer-term preparedness work.
